<p>Behind the apparent simplicity of maritime contracts lie two powerful financial instruments — compensation for idle time (demurrage) and a bonus for speed (despatch). They are the very springs that redistribute risks and force supply chain participants to act faster. Through these mechanisms, the processes in ports and on board vessels directly, as well as through a number of intermediary links, shape the market conditions and efficiency of the entire global economy. On the one hand, demurrage, essentially being compensation for exceeding a vessel’s normal laytime, acts as one of the main financial regulators, pushing for the intensification of cargo operations and increasing port capacity. If operations are completed ahead of schedule, despatch comes into effect — an incentive paid by the shipowner to the charterer. This system of “carrots and sticks” (a penalty for delays and a bonus for speed) makes it possible to align the economic interests of all parties involved in the transport process. On the other hand, demurrage simultaneously serves as both a marker and a direct generator of additional costs in the global logistics system. According to research, this phenomenon is not limited to a simple payment for downtime, but represents a dynamic factor that annually generates multi-billion dollar costs and influences the very architecture of the maritime shipping industry.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>диспач</kwd><kwd>демередж</kwd><kwd>фрахтователь</kwd><kwd>судовладелец</kwd><kwd>поощрение</kwd><kwd>санкции</kwd><kwd>судно</kwd><kwd>морская индустрия</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>despatch</kwd><kwd>demurrage</kwd><kwd>charterer</kwd><kwd>shipowner</kwd><kwd>incentive</kwd><kwd>penalties</kwd><kwd>vessel</kwd><kwd>maritime industry</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Бутрим А.
