<p>Design and engineering preparation for production is considered as the initial stage in the life cycle of mechanical engineering products, where the product’s technical concept is shaped and its future quality parameters are established. The relevance of this study stems from the fact that quality control of design documentation during the design preparation stages, carried out through expert review of compliance with the requirements of the technical specification and regulatory documentation, still involves a high degree of subjectivity and insufficiently measurable outcomes in traditional practice. This, in turn, limits opportunities for automating quality management and for supporting decisions on progression between development stages. The purpose of the paper is to substantiate and develop formalized quality assessment criteria for the design preparation stages that translate expert judgments into quantitative form. The methodological framework includes an analysis of the requirements of the Unified System for Design Documentation (USDD) regulatory standards governing the design stages (technical proposal, preliminary design, and detailed design) and the development of working design documentation, as well as a review of relevant publications on quality management and automation in mechanical engineering. Scientific novelty lies in proposing a structured set of criteria for quality management in design preparation in the form of eight groups covering key technical solutions; techno-economic indicators; reliability and performance; patent clearance; human and environmental safety; manufacturability and standardization; operational characteristics; and development process organization. To ensure measurability, ranges of values are proposed for each criterion, enabling the formalization of expert conclusions and the harmonization of assessment across different design preparation stages. It is shown that aggregating scores across the criterion groups can provide a basis for designing the architecture of an automated quality management system for design preparation and for supporting decisions on the feasibility of moving from one development stage to the next.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>конструкторская подготовка производства</kwd><kwd>управление качеством</kwd><kwd>автоматизированные системы управления качеством</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>design and engineering preparation for production</kwd><kwd>quality management</kwd><kwd>automated quality management systems</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Zhang J., Li B., Peng Q., Gu P.
